In the spirit of National Day celebration, Staffs of TSI were dressed up in Singapore’s colors of Red and White on 8th August 2019 to commemorate the 54th year of our country’s Independence. Everyone gathered at the Multi-purpose hall to celebrate this special occasion. Our Principal Mr Gan kick-started the event by leading the school in reciting the National pledge and singing the National Anthem. He then shared about Singapore’s history to our International students.
In the second segment of the Celebration, students and staff sang the old favourite National Day Songs that all Singaporeans are familiar with. During this rousing sing-along session, everyone raised their voices, whether in tune or not, and joined in the fun.
Ending the day on a high note, TSI also celebrated Birthdays of Staffs and Students, whom were born in the month of August. Our Birthday babies made their silent wishes and blew out the candles. In this wonderful day, TSI wishes them good luck and may all their dreams and desires come true in this year.
Mr Gan and Ms Winnie conducted professional development training on engaged pedagogy for Principals and Teachers from Shenzhen Longling School, China, for a week during the month of August. Teachers found the training useful and relevant to their teaching practices. We look forward to similar constructive interactions with teachers from other provinces of China in the months to come.
Our Academic Board Chairman, Mr Jimmy Tan conducted a workshop on Student Mentoring for our TSI Teachers and Lecturers on 30th August 2019. Mr Tan shared valuable insights on the role of teachers as mentors and how to nurture students academically, socially and emotionally. Staffs of TSI found this workshop useful and can easily relate to their current teaching practices. The second part of this workshop will be launched in the upcoming months.
On 23rd August 2019, our students from the Preparatory Course for Singapore – Cambridge General Certificate in Education (Ordinary Level), received their ‘O’ Level Chinese Language results. Of the total nine students who sat for the Examination in June 2019, seven students bagged Distinctions (A1) and the other two secured B3. All students have successfully cleared the ‘O’ Level Chinese Language Examination.
On 7th August 2019, Mr Gan welcomed students from Inner Mongolia of China, to experience a different learning environment at TSI. Our language teachers conducted Enrichment programmes such as Creative Writing to equip the students with necessary language skills and make them pro-active in the use of English. During the sessions, students actively participated in role plays and other assigned tasks.
Robotics Workshops were also conducted for these students. Our trainer Mr Jacob, demonstrated the way various types of robots are made using LEGO. The students work in groups and learnt how to express themselves and listen and relate to others. This workshop provided students with a base to robotics. Overall it was an enriching experience and the sessions were appreciated by all the students involved.
